i really want to study abroad or something like that. my school isn't apart of an exchange program, so i guess i have to wait until college to leave. i'm a sophmore in high school. that's too far away and our eruorope money went to my dad's new car (over $6000).

what can i do. america is great and all, but i want to experience a different life. i want to buy stuff, i want to talk to the locals, i sound tourist-y but i don't care!

and i speak french, does that help at all?i'm teaching myself german, japanese, and polish. but i think german is the one i'll know more. i want out! help me! i'm trapped! the smog! it's getting to me! *coughs*help!

Try looking into Rotary International or similar organizations. One of my friends spent a year in Japan with Rotary. They help with the finances, and find host families and what not.

you dont have to go through your highschool to get into an exchange program...look on the internet about them. but remember when youre in an exchange program you lose alot of freedom that you have here...such as having a job, being able to drive regardless if you have a license or not, also with not having a job you have to rely on your parents income supporting you with spending money for food, phone calls home etc...its definatly not cheap even when youre in a program...all they basically provide is a roof over your head...there are alot of rules also its very easy to get kicked out of these programs and be sent home the next day...save up for a few years and go to europe the first year out of school at least then you can do things such as getting a job there

I was an exchange student in my senior year. You must start researching about 1 year in advance. Your school doesn't need to be a part of an exchange program. You can apply by yourself. Check AFS's website:
