You aren't trained in the interpration of ultra sound photos. Trust your doctor. It is usually easier to tell if it is a boy. If there is something there, it is usually boy. If you don't see anything, it is either in a bad position or is a girl.

A friend of mine is an ultrasound tech. she happened to be scanning her daughter when I was in the room and her daughters baby's cord was in the same position. She had already told her daughter it was a girl and the day she was scanning and found the cord between the legs she thought it could be a boy. She then did a pelvic ultrasound which is an instrument that is inserted into the vagina which gives a closer view and she confirmed she still was having a girl. If your tech. is new and inexperienced then yes I would say she could be wrong. If you are really concerned about it then make another app. to find out the sex.

yes, you can have another ultrasound later. I am 37 weeks and have had two after my 20 weeks. I am having my first child so I will try to help. If the cord was in the way, she might be wrong but my first the cord was in the way and she said it was a girl. The other 2 ultrasounds including the 4-d, still showed it was a girl. There is a chance it will be a girl. listen to the baby's heartbeat. If it is very fast it will be a girl. congrats and I hope you get your girl.

I am a sonographer and even though she is probably skilled...you should go back. She could have been mistaken, because it is hard to see the sex of the baby if the cord is in the way. I usually will just tell the mother to come back if that is the case. If you want to be sure I would go back and get another one done. 20 weeks is the best time to see the sex of the baby, and you are about 23, which is still a good time. But, personally, I say if you are having a baby with the same man that you have the other children with, it is most likely you are having a boy. But go have it checked out again, just for your piece of mind.

see the thing is in a sonogram they arent really looking specifically for a penis when they are determining sex...what they look for is the scrotum and the penis..on a sonogram it looks like a big mass with a little mass between the legs for a boy..the abscence of anything between the legs doesnt mean that it is definitely a girl...for a girl they are looking for a separation type of presentation...on a baby of that gestational age the labia hasnt yet come together and you can quite distinctly see the labia and clitoris...depending upon certain hormones present a girl baby could have a swollen labia that could be mistaken for a scrotum..that is why when they look for a boy they want to see both the scrotum and the penis...under most circumstances you will not be having another sonogram..the level II sonogram is usually done around 20 weeks and that is more than likely what they did at 19 weeks...they looked at the babies heart, kidneys, growth, gestational age, etc....to look for any abnormalities. The sonogram itself isnt meant for gender indentification. Perhaps if you doctor has a sonogram machine in office you can convince him/her to before a quick one to see if you can figure out the sex of the baby...the machines in an OBGYNs office usually is as powerful or clear as those done at the radiologists office so give it a couple more weeks for the baby to get bigger...tell them you are under an extreme amount of stress about the sex of the baby..maybe that will convice them...Good Luck

Well, you should have at least 1 more ultrasound before the baby is born (ask your doc at your next visit). If the cord was between the legs, then there is a 50/50% chance she could have been wrong, just relax and don't worry yourself too much, it's not good for the baby. Good luck, and congratulations!!

we usually advise our patients that if they want to have the gender of their baby determined to do it between 6 and 7 months, because we have found that usually the external organs of the male (or female) fetuses are more or less identifiable at this time, and that the uterine cavity is still big enough for the baby to maneuver within.
earlier than this the testicles may not have descended into the scrotum and thus the baby might be mistaken for a girl.
beyond this time the more common problems we encounter is that the baby almost completely fills up the uterine cavity, making it sometimes difficult to identify the gender when the baby is in a not so ideal position, e.g. when the baby is lying on its stomach or in breech presentation.
it's not a hard and fast rule though - i have been able to identify male fetuses as early as 4 1/2 months and close to term.
in your case, you can get a second opinion for confirmation, but remember the chances of it being a girl is still 50%.

You never know. You could always pay to have an ultrasound if you want to. But with the cord in the way, I'd not 100% believe her call. Not because she's bad at reading, but because the cord made it hard to see.

They can get it wrong especially if the cord is nearby. I was told 3 times I was having a girl... What a shock when I gave birth to a boy! Get it double checked at your next scan. Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck with the birth no matter what the sex is! xxx
