quasars will never form stars. quasars are very much larger than stars. quasars are very active galactic nuclei at great distances. a quasar get its energy from a great deal of matter that heats as it spirals into a super-massive black hole.

Because they are the remains of one; at least a quasar is supposed to be a big black hole that has probably swallowed a lot of other mass, to spit out all the radiation jets that it does.
