When someone responds in a rude manner, kill them with kindness. Really lay it on -- like, "Oh. How wonderful that you can share such an exciting thought with me, or explain such an intricate process," or whatever. They'll know exactly what you are doing. They may be rude, but they aren't dumb! And it's difficult to fault someone who is saying thank you, and aren't you wonderful, in such an effusive manner.
If the rudeness is about a question that is overly personal, or something you simply don't want to talk about, I've found the phrase, "Now, whyever would you want to know that?" works wonders.
Bottom line is to realize that there is nothing wrong with you Anyone who is intelligent enough to know that they want toknow something, is on the top of the heap. The guy who wants to show off by being a know if all, by being superior, arrogant or contemptuous, is demonstrating his own weaknesses, and one can only pity him for that.
Keep on asking questions when you want to know something. You Go Girl!

Obviously there are many answers to this question, as there are many reasons why people may speak to you disrespectfully. It may be that they're particularly stressed just at that moment and may regret being rude the next minute, or it may be that you did ask a stupid question. A few people will be rude however you address them - I guess they hurt inside & either want to share that with you or are simply too numb to notice the effect that they're having on other people.

I have the misforture to have to work with the general public and the more self centred a person is the ruder they are. They are completely unaware of the effect that their manners have on other people. They are actually very easy to cope with as long as you remember that they are probably too daft to realise how unpleasant they are and you are much nicer and will probably have a much nicer life than them because you're a nice person.

I'm amazed at the amount of thought that some people are putting into answering questions. I think people might be reacting to your question, or the way you ask it.

Well... I agree. Some people just aren't brought up with the proper, curtious etiquette these days. These people only do this because they have the cerebral span of a fly, and cannot use it for anything!!

I think the people who are rude, do this because it makes them feel more empowered to be rude and aggressive. This kind of behaviour, in a forum like this, is of no worth or purpose.

Yes. Sometimes people try to be clever and in doing this offend others That is not clever, just downright rude, not funny, just cruel and a waste of time.

I think people are rude on this site because they don't know common courtesy. I believe a lot of people lack common courtesy and decorum. This is a public site and they think it's funny to degrade and be-little others.
