The characteristic valued to work in white corporate america is often hidden and unspoken. In america, the media always talk about having a diverse ethnic workforce so that discriminating people based on race is addressed and being politically correct is a goal. But if you sit down with top white executive, you will here a different story. What you will hear behind the doors of the good old boy network is that, people hire those they are comfortable with. What this means is white bosses will only hire other white managers to work with, because socially they are comfortable with each other. After work they can go golfing, strip joints, and to the bar to get drunk, just like when they were in college, to have sex with white girls and have white values to include and believe, no shame in lude conduct, everything is justified as long as you win, regardless of how you get there, making money justifies doing illegal things as long as you don't get caught.

I agree with Farly. In my organization it is possible to start at the bottom and work your way up. That's how our CEO got to the top.
I disagree with the statement that white managers only hire people that they feel comfortable socializing with.
In today's corporate America, there is no socializing because there is no time off. Managers wish they could go golfing, but they never actually go because they spend all their time working. This is true now more than ever, in this post-Enron environment.

You start out asking a legitimate question, but then de-evolve into bashing capitalism, corporations, and white people. And, on top of that, you are mostly mistaken. And you say "sit down with top white executive", like you've actually done that. And since you've never hung out with them, you don't know what they do.

How you work in corporate America (white or otherwise), is you start at the bottom, so the top executives have nothing to do with your hiring. Then, it is hard work and success that moves you up "the ladder". In most companies, it has nothing to do with color or sex. It has to do with how good you are. The executives at the top are self-interested, and it is in their own self-interest to keep and promote the best employees. Is this how it happens 100% of the time? No, but it's the way it happens most of the time.

I think the bigger issue here is that you don't believe in, nor like, capitalism, self-determination, or the free market.

We need to change the mindset that there is a white corporate america when there isn't... I believe you are one of the many perpetuating the divide between the races by making something that is not there. Begin with yourself -- and change your mind that there is a divide...then change others to understand it as well. Best Luck.

Have a good work ethic and present yourself in a positive and professional manner, then you'll move up the chain because they know the can respect and trust you. If you keep bashing them and present yourself in a negative manner, they'll never trust you.
