This answer is for Kalahari_Surfer. Instead of being ignorant and blaming Bush, do your homework.
The FCC was created on June 19, 1934, at that time the President was Franklin D. Roosevelt (Democrat). Congress created the FCC. Oh yeah, both houses were controlled by the Democrats.
Hmmmm, gun control....I believe that Republicans have ALWAYS advocated for the right to bear arms.

Do you even know what the FCC is? Well newsflash....The FCC was established by the Communications Act of 1934 and is charged with regulating interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable. What this has to do with taking away any of your rights or freedom of speech is beyond me. Do they have a problem with say Janet Jackson flashing tit on national TV? You bet. Do they want foul language curbed to a almost tolerable level on TV so your five year old doesn't swear like a sailor? you bet...They have no control over your telephone calls. Do your homework. Who has restricted our right to bear arms? As far as I know the 2nd Amendment is still where its always been in the Constitution. You've been fed a load of manure and you swallowed it. Sorry............. can I offer you an antacid?

Well, first you have to understand that a lot of people don't even know what their rights are...I mean, try asking anyone walking by if they know what the First Amendment of the Constitution is, and I guarantee you, that out of all the people you ask, only about a hand full would know...probably not even that many! So, if I were you, I wouldn't get upset with those who lack understanding, but understand that they just don't know! Now, you should start getting mad, when those same people do nothing but complain...complain...complain, then you should shame them!
Excellent question by the way =)

We have a guarantee of free speech - but that doesn't mean we can say anything we want wherever we want. It is unlawful to yell "fire" in a movie theater. And community standards dictate the children and others do not have to listen to vulgar and obscene language. Loud noise is disturbing to families eating in a restaurant - and its not the government that dictates this - its the local community.
Rules related to gun control vary from state to state - and maybe city to city. The 2nd Amendment is still in force and you basically still have a right to own a weapon. Some states may outlaw you carrying a concealed weapon - but that doesn't prevent you from having a weapon in your home to protect you and your family.

You would have to ask the people who a asking the government to act on this issue and that issue. These incursion into your freedom are requested by your fellow citizens to deal with issues they think are important. The only thing you can do about this is to become as loud as they are in asking that nothing be done that would curb your freedoms.

U.S.A. is definitely a down-low communistic country. I agree there is too much fear instilled in people.
This is not a time to be submissive, when we the people are being exploited more ways than one.
Malcolm X specified society is more interested in prestige. Also, he specified the BALLOT or the BULLET (check out his LP. Probably on DVD now. It's realistic and deep).

You can only protect your rights if you know what they are. Since most Americana's today have not read the Constitution they have no ideal what they are giving away, if they really understood the Constitution there would most likely be riot in Washington D. C. before sunup tomorrow.

I think is because poeple vote for a candidate to be represented in those issues but corporations pay to get candidates elected. So who are you going to represent as a candidate the one who only voted for you or the one who pays and actually got you elected.
In other words you are only asking to be represented and corporations are actually paying to be represented. Your request for representations disolves easily with some money.
