Try looking around your house. You could be assuming that you lost your socks/sock but their still at the bottom of your hamper because you forgot to wash em'. Maybe you dropped a pair or one side while switching from washer to dryer. Keep track of what you put in the dryer. Look around the laundry room. Try this simple solution, Get a New dryer!!! By the way, My Big Bear Ron's answer is very funny. Hope my answer helps!!!

The dryer is actually a portal into sockland, in an alternate universe where footwear reign supreme. I just got thru sorting socks, made 6 pairs, but have about 20 socks left that don't match. Maybe someday, they will return back thru the portal. Dh rubberbands his together, and he never loses any. I guess two cannot go thru the portal at the same time. Reckon I am too lazy to do that, even tho it works.......

It's the evil dryer monster. Did you know that all of the lost socks make up the ring around Saturn?

Sometimes they get caught in the corners of fitted sheets or against other clothes, even end up behind or under the washer or dryer, and yes, sometimes they just can't escape the "sock monster"

Of all articles of clothing, socks are the most driven to escape...the use their super static cling powers to hop a ride on other clothing, towels are their favorite, and when you aren't looking they are out the door, trying to make it on their own... Did you ever see a single dirty sock lying in the street somewhere? That's a sock that didn't make it. You have to admire their sheer determination and sneakiness.

The friction created by the dryer creates static and your socks cling to your other clothes.
