I wondered about that myself, but decided that the entire island wasn't made of kryptonite so he wasn't touching it when he was lifting it. BUT, he did have a piece still in his side. So...you just have to suspend your disbelief a little bit more & not worry about it.

In contact with kryptonite Superman becomes just a normal human being, a normal Kryptonian. Not weaker or stronger than any other human being. Remember, he is a super man just because he is on Earth, and in contact with our sun. But, kryptonite, being an element of his native planet, cancel all the effects that the Earth and Sun have in Superman.

I have not seen the movie myself, but if anything the island of Kryptonite is probably enclosed in some kind of shield or buried deep in the island so that it wouldn't have much effect on superman.

Superman and kryptonite are both native to the planet Krypton. All natives of Krypton exist as we do here on Earth, that is "mortal" with no special abilities. When Callo comes to Earth where he is not exposed to kryptonite, he has all of his powers until exposed to it.

he got weak when the kryptonite touched him. Just the radioactive stuff not the whole island. The radioactive stuff was in the cracks and breaking down

The underlying bedrock sheilded him from the effects until it started to fall away while he was lifting it

Actually it didn't even use to be when he touched it. It used to be if he even got to close to it it would start to zap his power. He wouldn't be able to get close enough to touch it.

In the movie, it seemed as though if he touched it, it weaked him however if it pierced his skin, it did way more damage.
