I don't know if California would be better off or not without the rest of the US, but I'm betting the rest of the US would be better off without CA. Every county in CA has asked to be declared a federal disaster area, CA has asked for federal support in gas prices, natural gas prices, electrical assistance, medical assistance for the uninsured etc etc etc. Yea, they have a large economy, but financially they take more from the federal government then they provide, and because of Californians, they utilize their natural resources hardly at all. So... I say, by all means please do secede from the union, I'll wave as you leave.

I think it would be a grand idea, but you're crazy if you think Californians would cut down their own forests.
And most of the money saved by not paying the "U.S. federal government" would be sucked up by the "federal government" that California would have to set up on its own. It would have to take care of all of its own roads, schools, and would have to create its own military to protect itself. Without a military, some lunatic would invade it. Plus California would lose a lot of money because the U.S. would pull out all its military bases. Places like San Diego could be in big trouble if all those soldiers, their families, their purchases, and their state taxes left.
And if you look at the state government, I think they're blowing through taxpayers' money much more so than the federal government.
I believe the economics of the situation are more complex than you imagine.

It would not make any difference to the overall economy of the US if California left the union and became its own country. There would still have to be a free trade agreement unless California wants to float the state away to say Asia.

First of all, California can't "toss out" the federal government. Let's not forget who runs things in this country. I know the Californians like to think they do but it's not so. Don't forget, ALL the states recieve federal subsidies - even California. I don't know how losing them would affect the economy but it sure wouldn't hurt my feelings any.

I think if California (im in 310 area code, woo woo) succeeded from the union then it would be a major upset to the american economy. We got millionaires and movie stars and alot of people living here, multiply and add all that money up and subtract it from the rest of the country and the rest of the country as a whole looks broke as hell.

Maybe it's time for an update of that wonderful book, "The Last Days of the Late Great State of California."

Without California's moonbats passing every idiotic law the far left can think of,the rest of the US would be much better off and might even get some work done.

Hell certain. they have a higher economic equipment than maximum international locations. CA is ranked eighth greatest economic equipment interior the international. surely i imagine the full US might want to split right into a minimal of 6 diverse international locations. that is extra acceptable for the people in those new international locations and extra acceptable for international peace. the U. S. because it stands is the most deadly united states to international peace and prosperity. provide the Latinos Texas, New Mexico and Arizona back. provide the yankee Indian their own united states. some midwest states and some southern states can merge right into a rustic. so as that they are going to be free to have incest of their trailer parks :) dumb *** hicks. The northeast is for us non racist, smart people.

It would be great if California could break off, float down to Cuba, and attached itself.
They would all be happier. Especially Hollywood which hates America and loves Cuba.
