Check out the New York, LA, and Nashville Yellow Pages for Temp Services. Nearly every assistant I ever knew in the music industry got their job by FIRST contracting with a temp agency. These places also advertise in the New York Times Sunday paper. Some specialize in music entirely.

i didn't even know what a record company is...
check all the labels and clubs
