I'm not sure what kind of movies you like. I just watched Casanova with Heath Ledger and that was pretty good...action w/comedy and romance.
If you are into horror movies, then Saw I and Saw II might be up your alley. They are a little gory but not as gory as Hostel. They both have interesting plot twists in the end.
If you are into animation, then you could check out Hayao Miyazaki's latest US release, Howl's Moving Castle. Better than the newest Disney releases, in my opinion.
Another newer movie that was pretty good was The History of Violence, which I think is a cross between a drama and a suspense movie.
An old classic drama movie that I really enjoyed was The Snake Pit, with Olivia DeHavilland.
