The belt needs to be replaced if the motor is running. Or the roller wheels are frozen and won't let it turn. It's not too difficult to replace these items just takes a lot of time. good luck

If I'm not mistaken, Roper is being made by Whirlpool now, so they are very similar in design. Sounds like a broken belt, if the motor can be heard running. It may just have jumped off the tensioner and then in turn off the motor pulley. It's not a real simple thing to replace unless you've done it a few times. You could take the panel off the back, usually in the lower right hand corner, and see if the belt is intact or if it's broken. The belt tensioner is spring loaded, so if it's in it's slot, the the belt has to be held together to form a loop and pushed from the left side under the pulley of the tensioner and then pulled over the shaft of the motor. You can usually hold the tensioner up with one hand while positioning the belt on the motor shaft with the other. If it needs a new belt, you'll have to take the top up and the front off to get the drum and the old belt out. If that's the case I'd call a repair person.
