8 - 5 = 3 therefore x = 3

perimeter = 2 x (24 + 36) feet

First question: three, obviously.
Second question: the perimeter is defined as the sum of the lengths of all sides. The yard has two sides of 24 feet and two of 36 feet, so the perimeter is 24+24+36+36. (You may do the addition.)

8-x=5
-x=5-8
x=-5+8

So X=3

24x2=48
36x2=72
The perimeter of the yard = 48+72 = 120
