Goldfish should only be kept with other goldfish. Tropical fish should not be kept with Goldfish for a few reasons. For one, goldfish require an unheated tank and tetras and guppies do best in a tropical, or heated enviroment. The differences in temprature are bad for fish. Second, goldfish secrete a lot of slime which is not good for "cleaner", more delicate tropical specimens. The extra dirt created by goldfish is why they require lots of filtration. Since there are many different varities of goldfish available, you can easily create a diverse tank of goldfish - providing your tank is big enough. Try different colors of common fantails and orandas and one of my faves, bubble eyes. Good luck.

You need to make sure your biological filtration is very good. Furthermore, if the goldfish is adult, and can catch the neons it'll eat them. You'll need to heat the tank for the tropical fish, and the goldfish can handle that fine. The guppies wouldn't do as well as the tetras, as their *** pretty tails would be big pretty lunch very quickly.

Hopefully, whatever fish you are introducing to an established aquarium are going to be quarantined first. It really stinks to have to move your fish to hospital tanks and medicate them because a newcomer from the pet store has something contagious. :(
That said, I don't think it will work. Those tetras or guppies will eventually become expensive feeder fish for your goldie. Big fish eat little fish. If you'd like to add another occupant and have the room for it (or you can upgrade your tank if it's too small), I'd suggest another fancy goldfish. We keep a medium-sized pair comfortably in a 29 gallon and they swim around together.

Goldfish are cold water fish. The others are tropical.
The temp. of the water effects fish more then it does us. They are cold blooded.
Goldfish also need 10 gallons per fish. You probably don't have room in your tank for any tank mates.
Goldfish produce tons of ammonia. Other fish are very sensitive to this.
All these things will stress out the fish and they will get sick. Then they will die.
Note for above answer- Goldfish will eat anything that fits in their mouths. They have to catch it first though. Catching things isn't really their forte. They certainly couldn't catch a tetra.
Try Dojo loaches they are more appropriate.

It depends on the size of the calico goldfish. If the guppies and small enough to fit in the goldfish's mouth...it won't work very well. You'll have one very fat goldfish.

I think you should keep goldfish with goldfish, but I know people who have gold fish and tropical fish together and the fish are just fine. i guess you just have to try and see if it works for you.

Tetras no. But we has several large goldfish in our 150gallon tank for the longest time, the goldfish died eventually, but they lived together for years. (they ate any tetras we put with them).

It mostly depends on the size of the goldfish. If it is small, then probably.
However, the biggest problem with introducing new fish to any tank is that you often introduce disease with them.
