Here's a few observations:

1. Overweight people are viewed as less credible.
2. In a retail setting, I've noticed that men get quicker and better service.
3. Middle aged and older women become "invisible" to society.
4. Career wise - it's acceptable for men to go gray/ bald, grow a paunch, have bags under their eyes and sagging eye lids, but the American culture doesn't make the same allowances for a woman.
5. "Punk-looking" young people aren't taken seriously and are viewed as "threatening."
6. Men assign value to women only if women fit men's stereotype of sex appeal.

Stereotypes are preconceived and over-simplified ideas of the characteristics which typify a person or thing. When we allow ourselves to be "sucked into" stereotypical conceptions, we slap a roadblock on our minds and hearts and do harm to the object of our stunted thinking.
