Feb. 9, 2005 - Suffering from a "broken heart" may actually be a real medical phenomenon that mimics a heart attack but may be much less dangerous, according to a new study.
Researchers say the potentially lethal effects of emotional stress are well known in folk wisdom, as demonstrated by the phrases "scared to death" and "broken heart." But new evidence shows that broken heart syndrome may be an actual medical condition brought on by a surge of stress -related hormones that temporarily "stun" the heart........

girl yea, a broken heart can be depression, or its like DABDA (denial, anger, bargaining, depression then acceptance are the stages of a tragedy), and somethimes the after stages give you stress, wihich releases horrible chemicals in the body and have unbalanc eand causes headaches, high blood pressure, and seizures if not handles soon enough, but they say laughing is good for the soul so do that often and you'll just die a natural death (old age)

There is some medical evidence that suggests depression can potentially kill people when it begins to manifest physical symptoms. There is no widespread agreement as to the cause, however. Some speculate the body simply loses the will to continue and the brain shuts down itself and subsequently the body.
Even if it doesn't or cannot kill you physically, though, to not have anything you care about or cherish is to be already dead because your life lacks any central meaning or purpose. I don't see how anyone could find comfort in death.

Yes. Our bodies physically respond to our emotions such as: weeping, laughing and jumping in fear. That is why our creator gave us this wonderful organ called a brain. We have the ability to control our thoughts and our emotions. Science has even shown that simple meditation heals the body. Our bodies will respond to what our brain tells it to do. Do not allow others to dictate your emotions. Your broken heart will heal and will make you stronger and wiser. Appreciate the opportunity you had to love someone. Love is powerful and so long as you love others, love will come back to you. Sometimes, even more than you can handle - I promise.

You know, I really do. I think my cousin died of a broken heart. It took the form of cancer, but I've always believed that it was really because her heart was broken by too many people.
