I was shy and Im not now.
You get unshy by getting older, and by having experience in talking with people.
Try talking to people you dont know about being shy. Maybe even say that you are shy, and see what happens, I bet they will talk to you.
Sometimes people who appear confident are really uncomfortable too.
Sometimes you will be fine talking to some people, and feel really shy talking to others. That doesnt make sense, so think about that!!!
Try making conversation whenever you can. What are you into, computers, sport? Even just talking about being shy is fine.
You are also not that shy, you have asked the question, which was brave.
Congratulations on making the first step towards being happy and confident later in your life!!!!!!

Shyness is a very uncommon commodity in today's world, but dont let it become your undoing! Cultivate some real friends who you can interact with and slowly try and overcome your problem. Else you will find yourself being left out of a lot of beautiful experiences that once not grabbed, may not come by again. Make a friend today.

Remember that you are your own worst critic. You may think that everyone is staring at that one lock of hair thats out of place but often everyone is too worried about their own lock of hair out of place.
Join local groups, book clubs, church groups etc, start out with joining small groups and challenge yourself. Say today I am going to talk to one person in the group, the next day, today I am going to talk to two people in the group and work your way up till it starts to come more naturally. If needed think up small talk ideas ahead of time, "Are you married?" "I love your purse whered you get it?" etc,

"Beating Shyness
One of the best ways to combat shyness is to change negative thinking and behavior. For example, avoid negative thoughts such as,
"I'm such a failure, no one will ever like me."
"I'm not normal. People think I'm a freak."
