Frist you must choose the company you want, than pick a phone they offer.
1. Verzion has the best coverage across the US, so if you travel a lot pick them.
2. Cingular is still have some network problems due to the merger with ATT wireless, but a big network also. In some locations they give better coverage.
3. Everything else. But do not pick Nextel, sprint bought them and they are letting the network die slowly while trying to get everyone to switch to Sprint. The network standards on Nextal's network will not work with anyone elses.

There are several sites on the internet that will allow you to line each carrier up side by side to make a comparison. I suggest using Yahoo and search "compare cell phone carriers". Now depending on where you are and your needs (ex. if you are using it for business your going to need great coverage and lots of minutes) I did see an ad on TV for ampmobile offering unlimited minutes for $99 per month. Alltell also has a great plan that allows you to add 10 people (regardless of their carrier) to your circle and you can call and receive calls from them for free.

I think u must buy the one which is best and which u can afford in other words u must buy the one which is most expensive but which u can afford but i'll prefer u to buy my favourite nokia 6600

DO not get the Samsung T309 or the Motorola Razr.
Horrible phones.

I have been happy with my Cingular, Samsung SGH X-427 although the newer version has a brighter screen. The newer version is the X-427M

my motorola e815 is a beautiful phone, mp3 player, high res camera, wonderful reception, long battery life, speakerphone, easy menu
