First of all, it depends on the person and how hard they practice.
But if you are talking about the beautiful, slow movement of the Moonlight Sonata, then don't worry. One year of piano is probably enough to let you reach that level. The main difficulties in the song is the octave-long stretches, which may be tiring for a beginner, and the three voices (you have a bass line, some accompaniment, and then the melody). But the song overall is pretty slow, so it's not too difficult.
If you talking about the whole sonata, then it might take a few years. The Moonlight Sonata's second movement isn't very difficult, but the third one requires pretty high level technique. If you are planning to take the National Guild tests, then the third movement is hard enough to be used as an Advanced F test song. If you are a genius, then I'd say three years. If you are a normal human being like the rest of us, then I'd say four or five years.
But don't worry, the first movement should be pretty easy for you! Just work hard and maybe you can get there in less than a year!

That really depends on how good the person is at the piano. Some people start lessons not only not having any musical training but also having not too much natural ability; those people would take several (3 or more) years. However, there are some people who start learning and just take to it right away, for whatever reason; those people could probably knock out the notes relatively quickly (two years or less). Now, learning to play a piece isn't just knowing how to play the notes; it also involves sensitivity to dynamics, expression, crescendi, etc. So, it's honestly anyone's guess as to how long it would take.

Okay..first tip..with every key you press..feel the vibration of that note..feel the music change you by either slowing down or hastening your heart beat..you are your best teacher..your hands are your brain..your limbs are an extension of your brain..as long as you want to badly enough..and you dont berate yourself for your mistakes..i think you might very well be playing moonlight sonata much sooner than you think

I knew a girl that could play piano by ear. Some people struggle, and some don't.
