Many neocons like to say that the fact that the media only reports on the bad things proves that there is a liberal bias. However, in never see any concrete, verafiable examples of all the supposed good things that are happening. So, put your money where your mouth is: provide links to unbiased sites (this means that Faux News Channel, Rush Limbaugh, Anne Coulter and the like don't count) that prove to me that more good than bad is happening in Iraq.

I'm not saying that nothing good has or is happening in Iraq, but I don't see that there is so many good things to report on that the bad news should be overshadowed. Electricity is on only for limited periods of time, dozens of people are dying daily, the oil infrastructure is still not producing at even the rate it was before the invasion(remember all the Bush admin officials who promised that Iraqi oil revenue would pay for the war as well as the reconstruction? How's that working out? Oh, right, it's still costing the U.S. taxpayers billions of dollars per month...). As far as my saying "don't use Faux News, Coulter or Limbaugh to bolster your arguments: if you are going to continue to insist that the mainstream media has a liberal bias, you are certianly going to have to concede that those folks have an extremely obvious conservative bias. All I'm saying is, don't just say "the media never reports on the good stuff!" if you can't show me unbiased, verafiable accounts.

All of the links the one answerer provided are U.S. govt links; forgive me if I don't think official admin. press releases are going to convince me. As to the "world oil supplies have stabilized" argument- what? Iraqi oil production is not even at the level it was before the invasion, so how does that figure in? Gas is over $3 at the pump in most of the U.S. (yes, I know that's less than most of the rest of the world, that's beside the point for purposes of this discussion) so I feel secure in saying that there is no glut of oil on the market bringing prices down.

Eric W is correct in that the real problem is that so many people in Muslim countries are not educated, and they are controlled by extremists who exploit their ignorance, although he didn't answer the question. The U.S. should be soing all they can to encourage literacy in the Muslim world, so the people can see for themselves what is right. I don't think that most people are going to choose nonstop violence over peaceful co-existence. Unfortunetly, this would take a long time and Americans are not patient people.

I don't have any links to show you, but my best friend just returned from a year in Iraq and this is what she told me: There is a lot of rebuilding and modernization going on that the media never shows. Iraqi citizens overwhellmingly support the troops and the change their country has taken. My friend was there on the most recent election day and Iraqi citizens had tears in their eyes because this was the first time their voices were ever heard. Yes, there is violence, and the troops carry their guns with them at all times, but there is far more good than bad going on there.

My friend was thrilled to come home, and no doubt this experience changed her life, she hopes she never has to go back. But one thing she did say was that our soldiers feel like Americans do not support them. Not that Americans don't support the war in Iraq, but that Americans don't support our troops. How sad. The media has defintely played a role in this and should be ashamed of themselves.

First of all, it's pretty close-minded of you to use the biased mainstream media to make your point, and then say the "other side" can't use Fox News, Rush, or Ann Coulter. And it's not very progressive of you to believe that we should've left Iraqi women to continue being raped, tortured, killed, and denied the ability to go to school.

I'm not saying that the situation is Iraq is great, I just think it's extremely close-minded for people to claim there is NOTHING good going on in Iraq. The Iraqi people have been freed from a brutal, mass-murdering dictator. They now have self-rule, they're no longer prisoners of a madman. Here are some links;

World oil supply has stabalized and gasoline etc is readily available without long lines and rationing. That is most important accomplishment. There are many others but none that so impact our standard of living. Remember Jimmy Carter, gasoline lines down the block? I like being able to heat my home, drive to work. Thats a good thing GW thank youl.

Bechtel rebuilt a lot of schools in Iraq. The Japanese Self Defense Force just finished a two-year deployment in Iraq during which they rebuilt a lot of infrastructure. The Kurds appear to be happy. It's better for the media to not report these stories because the insurgents use them for intel. If they hear of a school that allows girls, they go and blow it up.

Nothing really good will come out of Iraq until Bush gets his head out of his *** and realizes that everyone over there is being brainwashed with Islamic BS. And the only solution to that is to kill everything over knee high.

Its good for the funeral homes and undertakers in Iraq since so many Iraqis are getting killed. And, we won't have to worry about their becoming terrorists since they'll be dead.
