Not speaking for all 54 yr olds, of which I am. He's got a problem with kids in general. You need to back off from this guy as the insults will only get worst as time goes on. Hopefully this isn't your son he's talking about !!!

well its not good. any negative comments from a childs father will hurt them,especially when it is not neccessary. if the father uses the word idiot too often the child will feel like they are not doing anything right or on the other hand that whatever they do they are an idiot so they may as well rebel.have you tried talking to the father?if not then i suggest you do so. you are the perfect person to help him out, he may not even realise how much he does it.goodluck

Edit: This is mental abuse! You need to do something about this. It can cause a child to grow up feeling down about himself or herself. I was there while growing up, and it makes it really hard to accomplish anything that could be successful!

I have a 7-year-old and an 11-year-old and I would not tolerate anyone calling them idiots. Get rid of him. You are their mother and you should be protecting them from verbal abuse.

i think it's hilarious. is he calling them idiots to their faces? if so, that's not nice. i call my boyfriend and idiot all the time (never in a harsh way, just when he's acting goofy), and my 3 year old started calling my boyfriend's 6 year old daughter that. he says it so mean to her, though. i've made him stop saying that to her, but i have to admit, i found it kind of humorous every time he said it. i don't think it's nice to call people names, especially if it hurts their feelings. if he's saying it in a way to hurt their feelings and they're kids related to either one of you, you should try to get him to stop. he may just be a bitter kid hater.

Depending on how he is saying it? is he saying mean and harsh or is he playing around.
But any way shape or form he should not be calling kids any name like that and since you dont like that maybe you should tell him in a nice manner that you dont like him call kids bad name and ask him to stop!
