The more I read here, the madder I get. I see questions like: Is it OK to feed my dog/cat people food( or something really stupid as hot peppers). I think my pet is sick, what do I do?. Ooooops my dog is pregnant. Why in the sam hill don't people take care of their pets?? Unwanted pregnancies lead to so many cats and dogs in shelters, have some of you NO BRAINS. Don't get a pet till you have done your homework, and for God's sake take them to the vet regularly. AND GET THEM SPAYED OR NEUTERED.

Our city animal control kills 350 dogs daily. We have the worst animal control in the country even worse than LA and Miami Dade..Welcome to San Antonio Texas! The rednecks in Texas won't allow humane legislation and the breeders and AKC lobby/block against mandatory spay neuter. Breeders also have to be responsible for what they produce...

Unfortunately in our society pets are throw aways. When they are no longer convenient they get dumped. Until pets are seen as living, sentient beings and truly part of a family, this won't change. Expect to spend 20 yrs of yur life caring for a pet just like a child and if you're not willing to do that, get a stuffed animal instead.

Puppies will demolish your house, chewing and destroy your yard. Accept that and take the time to teach and discipline them, or else don't get one! They are not objects you throw out in the back yard or allow to run loose to disturb and terrorize neighbors.

So many treat their pets like they do their kids now..let them run wild and do whatever the hell they want to everyone else.

Well said. I wish people were more responsible pet owners. My job would be so much easier if people did not lie and try to tell me they never do that or that this is the first time we ever had a problem with the dog.
I train dogs. We acutally mostly I train people how to teach their dogs something.
I have answered many questions that I though were stupid and could not understand how someone could not know that about dogs. But if my taking the time to answer the question made the life of one dog better it was worth the time.
I get frustrated sometimes with working as a trainer and this is a nice outlet for me. I do not have to follow up and have someone tell me that what I told them did not work. Only to find out that they did not do what I asked them to and be consistant with training.

I shake my head at some of the questions I've run across too. A lot of it seems to stem from ignorance (very different from stupidity- we're all ignorant about different things). People aren't willing to do the research to learn about their pet's needs or don't realize how vital it is to do so. Many naively rely on pet store employees (who are sometimes the most clueless of all) for all of their information. I know I did this a few times when I was younger and sorely regretted it.

When I talk to people about proper pet care, I try to stay as factual and friendly about it as possible. Insults and tirades make most folks shut down and tune out. You have a better chance of getting through to people if you are an active listener and approach them as someone that they can comfortably come to with their questions.

I understand your frustration though, I really do.

I have six animals, and five are rescues from the pound. I know exactly how you feel. I live in North Carolina, where hunting deer and other animals with dogs is common practice. Do you know what that equates to? Half-starving your dogs so that they'll be vicious enough to run down the deer so you don't have to get up off your lazy a$$ and catch it yourself. Most of the time the dogs end up in the road, half starved and vicious, and they get hit by cars. All of my animals are up to date on their vaccines, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and have their collars and tags on at all times. How hard is that? Come on, people! Don't get a pet unless you're prepared for the responsibility. Simple as that.

I have six large dogs, and several cats. My dogs have a secure two acre fenced dog yard, regular check ups and all of the their shots. All except my alpha dog are spayed or neutered. They eat the best dog and cat food available, all sleep in the house with us at night, and are regular members of my family. We bought and converted a greyhound bus into an RV so that they can all travel with us.

Go lecture somebody else.

These type of people make me furious! My neighbors had this sweet yellow lab last winter and kept her outside on a short chain, she got pregnant so I kept her in my garage at night and she eventually had the puppies in my garage. They had the nerve to complain to one of my other neighbors about me like I did something wrong! We eventually found a good home for her (our jack russell wouldn't allow her in the house or we would have taken her) and she is now living a good life. These idiot neighbors went out and got 2 chow mix puppies and keep them on the same short leash. They are the dumbest people I have ever met and I wish they would get a clue.

Good for you!!! I am glad someone else has noticed that too. There are so many unwanted animals out there. And people who have no clue on how to care for them have no right owning them. They should do their homework before making such a commitment. Thanks for making your voice heard!!!

even as I believe you, a minimal of they're asking (in the adventure that they are being actual). they could be questions that make us balk even if the vendors are truly attempting to study about their puppy and see if doing this or that is truly ok. Does that really cause them to irresponsible once you imagine of it like that? i visit allow you to do not ignore that maximum puppy vendors gained't worry to even bypass on the information superhighway and study. That being stated, the quantity of those who own pets yet understand not something about them disturbs me. I artwork at a puppy save and the inability of expertise of a few those who are available is heartbreaking from time to time. maximum of them, the purely study they are going to do for being concerned for his or her puppy is a 2 minute clarification from a puppy save worker. that is so volatile, i doesn't believe maximum puppy save people to provide me advice (that being stated, we are not all undesirable... i'm obsessed on birds and am continually getting to understand them... I even use to be interior the full 10 answerers for the puppy fowl section on Y!A... yet i'm a puppy save worker). We even get those who come to us for advice even as their puppy is death and we tell them to bypass to the vet... they say no that is too expensive and want us to do something truly. Hmm... that sounds lots like Y!A too, doesn't it? >_> i do not understand why there are such an excellent style of irresponsible puppy vendors... even if the extra procedures we are able to discover to coach those people, the extra acceptable.
