This is one of the oldest scams on the Internet. They have just started sending these winners notifications from England. They were begun in Nigeria some years ago, but they are a scam. People have lost millions to these scams over the years. Just remember the axiom "if it sounds too good to be true, it is." Do not be fooled, You have not won anything that requires you to send money to claim your prize.

Anything that you receive online is suspect. Go to snopes.com for the real dope on online scams and urban legends. The lottery winning e-mails are always a scam. Leave it alone.

If you're told you are the winner of something you didn't enter, yes, it's a scam. There is likely some fee that you have to pay before you can collect your "winnings".

Usually you can contact your state's office of the attorney general to check on the various offers of "winnings" that come in your mail or by telephone. In this case, of course, it is not necessary. . . it's definitely a scam.

The easiest way to tell that this, or any other "contest" is a scam, is by the fact that they want you to send them money. Don't be fooled into giving these crooks your money.

If you didn't enter in the lottery, then it is a scam. Stay away from it.
