You bring up a good point. This, unfortunately, is the society we live in today. Everything must be politically correct and it is not acceptable to think outside the "box" (how cliche). I wish I was not giving this bad news to you but it is only going to get worse, especially in the US. Civil Rights issues are getting out of hand and everyone feels that all of their beliefs should NEVER be questioned on a public forum. Hang in there, people like me are out there that will respect anything you have to say even if I don't agree with it :)

Don't forget that when you write something it is subject to different interpretations. Unless you are very careful to support your tone, people misread. In fact, they've done studies where people misread things more than half the time when it is only written.
So don't worry about what they say online. They can't hear the verbal inflection of your voice or see your non-verbal movements. If you are being serious, then you will be able to find a few people willing to engage in discussion. Also realize that some people use this site to gain attention even if it is derogatory toward others.

Most people are under a lot of stress. Some use excessive amounts of alcohol or drugs for that--which only makes it worse!
Others think that their way is the only way--and are ready, willing and able to fight for that.
There is too much fighting in this world--people should think about working together to save the world--rather than destroy it.

Looking at your other questions, I'd say the conservatives are the ones getting on your case? If you don't want to be called those things, don't ask controversial questions. Even a conservative would say the same thing you just said if they asked the same questions (of course, skewed to their view).

No, it is not indicative of the times we live in. It is human nature to read your own issues into the questions as well as it is human nature to deny bigotry. No, I'm not bigoted the *********** are really as ********* as I say.
