By most standards, yes, talking on a cell phone in a restaurant is considered rude. Obviously, if there is an emergency, one should take a call. If there is something of an urgent nature that might require you to talk on your phone during a meal, it would be polite to inform the others in your dining party that you might receive a call during the meal, but then excuse yourself from the restaurant when/if you take it.

Yes. It's rude to the person they are with and to other patrons of the restaurant.
Just like smoking is being prohibited some restaurants need to take the initiative of having people turn off their cell phones in the restaurant or be forced to leave.
The people that need to talk on the phone can go to the area of the public phone,or step outside, but don't go to the restroom where it's even more of an intrusion.
Don't get me started on ppl that talk on their phones in the restrooms.

yes, it is rude to talk on your cell phone in a restaurant or in public places. It is very annoying and calls should either be on hold or taken outside. It also takes some time off to the one you are talking to in front of you.

Terribly. We just aren't teaching people etitquette anymore. I always make sure my phone is on vibrate when I am in public, and if it's a call I must take, I excuse myself and step outside of the restaurant, store, or whatever to take the call. I either turn it off, or leave it in the car when I go to the theater...... I wish more people would do the same.

It is consider to be a rude thing to do. If one must talk on the cell phone, you should excuse yourself from the table if you are with other people. If you are by yourself, you need to make sure your voice and laugh is low so as not to disturb other people. This could also be solved by turning off your phone during mealtimes.

Be polite and at least put your phone on vibrate. And go outside if it is a important call, because noone else wants to know what your talking about.

YES... years ago, if you passed someone on the street , you might wave and say hello. In restaurants, you might smile at strangers. Now , everyone has a darn cellphone permanently glued to their ear. I am tired of it.

Yes, extremely. If you have to make the call, go out for a minute. Otherwise you offend your guests, your server and the rest of the staff.
