Is the reason a need for validation? If not, what might it be?

First off, lmao @ Laird R

Anyways, I don't know about this whole "invalidation" thing, but I figure people ask questions like that to seek like-minded people.

So if I was asking "who likes Britney Spears?" as a fan of hers, then I know someone who responds like Laird R parodied, that person and I have something in common we can talk about; otherwise, if someone responds in the negative, then I know we at least have less potential to connect (especially on that point).

However, I do think you mean that in a slightly bigger way, like, why would someone post that question on "Yahoo Answers!" Maybe you'd figure this site should only be intended for serious questions worthy of intellectually stimulating discussion of social import and not "OMYGAWD!", inane, immature and/or functionally useless questions.

Eh.. it takes all kinds of vegetables to make a vegetable soup. But I relate.

I think you hit it with validation. Britney isn't necessarily the "hottest of the hot" right now, so anyone that still has her posters on the wall is going to need some affirmation to keep them up there. And really, these people are utilizing one of the coolest aspects of the Internet. The feeling of security. That you aren't alone. No matter how sick or weird you are, there's someone just as sick and weird (if not moreso) on the other side of the planet.

Kinda leaves you with a warm cuddly feeling.

Why do people ask questions about people who ask questions?

re you other question
I would assume that the Britney Spears fan club is losing members
and the Local club president is trying to recruit replacements
or is the last member searching to find out if at least one other is still alive before drinking the tontine.
