Or is it faster to put the one wet piece in by itself?

I agree with the person above.

If you have a load of dry clothes you forgot to fold, the wet item will help remove the wrinkles.

~Or~

If you have some hardly worn, not really dirty, but not quite fresh clothes, toss a fabric softener sheet in with the wet item, toss in the clothes, and all will come out fresh and ready to hang.

With multiple articles in a dryer, the mass of the items retains the heat and drying is quicker. Drying a single small item is a waste of heat and will take more time.

If you only have one wet item why use the dryer? Just hang it on a hanger in a doorway or over a chair. It'll dry fairly fast and you won't have to pay for the power to run the dryer.
