One spark plug looks fine the other covered in black soot. Cleaned carb and switched coil packs around with no results. Poured a little tranny fluid in gas to remove carbon with no results.

First as a small engine mechanic, DO NOT mix tranny fluid with the gas, you are just asking to get the carb gummed up, there is a jet stem inside the carb above the needle valve which has many holes, these holes are size of a straight pin, you do not want to clog them up. the black soot................if its a oily black soot, you have oil comsumption indicating bad rings, if it is a dry black soot, you have too much gas going to that cylinder, which means u need to look back at the carb. try a new plug first, there is such a thing as a bad plug, and also be sure the new plug is the correct one for the engine.

Check the fire at the end of the plug
You may have a bad plug
Just cause it's new doesn't mean it's good.

Black soot is either
Bad spark
Loss of compression
Due to
Bad Rings
Bad Head Gasket

Trans fluid doesn't clean, nor cause gas to gum up...... the gas is a petroleum product anyway....

Clean the carb if its black and dry, if its black and oily..... you may have a oil consumption problem on that cylinder.
