You can find some that say "Rest in Peace" and "RIP" on www.badtattoos.com
Don't remember your friend's death. Celebrate their life. If you must have a tattoo in rememberance get one that symbolizes what they loved or did. Not that it is over.
Some of the most beautiful tattoos I have seen were rememberance tattoos, but by looking at them you would never know that they were to symbolize a death... because they didn't. They celebrated the person's life.

I am very sorry for your loss. I lost my best friend this way four years ago. The pain was unbielvable, and, although it does get easyier, it doesn't go away.
That said, if this was a recent event, please think about it for at least 6 months, a year would be better. You will go through some feelings that are hard to imagine. I had some very angry feelings at one piont. Angry at the doctors(he was supposed to be on meds) angry at his family, and angry at him. A tattoo, at that time, would have been to painful to look at daily. I now have a very cool scorpion tattoo, in his honor. It was not what I was thinking about right after his suicide, but it so fits. I'm glad I waited to sort out my feelings.

Google tattoo artists in your area. Most tattoo parlors have flip books or posters on the wall with lots of different designs and you can go in and check them out. Most of them will have several designs based around "rest in peace." Probably also if you just google, "rest in peace tattoo" you can find a whole bunch of instances online, and if you like one you can print it out and take it in to the tattoo artist of your choice.

Wow. My boyfriend is planning on working for the railroad. Needless to say, I know a lot about trains (blah blah blah). But, on the subject, I don't exactly know from experience how getting hit by a train feels, but I had a dream about it once. It was like this HUGE STUN, like when you hit a tuning fork, or your funny bone. But, I woke up right after that. I'm sure he felt no pain. I'm awful sorry for your loss. Good luck.
