I don't know, but a hypothesis for that is: lately, Mexico has hated Brazil and loved every team which defeats the Brazilians. And the last two Brazilian losses in World Cups were against the French!
Sincerely, I don't see any reasons for Mexicans not to support Italy. But they have reasons to support France. But it's just a hypothesis.

Did Mexico lose to France? If so that makes sense they would be rooting for them. It's always better to lose to the team that goes all the way. If you lose to a team that loses in the next round you find yourself thinking, "we SO could have beaten them"
