It's not easy to answer this question, because her heroine are so different and all are excellent characters, sensible people, lovely young ladies, the essences of the women-kind.
Elizabeth Bennet is a smart, intelligent, proud, pretty young lady, her sister, Jane beautiful, kind, generous, good hearted creature.
Emma Woodhouse wealthy, pretty, self-satisfied young woman, a fine, excellent character, who had to learn to control her rash and thoughtless mind.
Elinor Dashwood is a sensible, rational young lady, her younger sister Marianne is wildly romantic and passionate.
Catherine Morland (Northanger Abbey) may is the oddest heroine of Austen, a pretty, simple, naive girl, who faces the hypocrisy of people considered friends, the cruelty of the polite society.
Fanny Price is a poor young woman who has grown up in her wealthy relatives' household without ever being accepted as an equal.
Lady Susan is an anti-heroine, unlike the women featured in Austen's other works, is a stunningly beautiful widow bad to the bone.
Anne Elliot is an intelligent, pretty young women, who let the love of her life get away and suffers because she never stopped loving him.
...
I think i prefer Catherine Morland and Elizabeth Bennet. (Although they are totally different in their character)

I love Elizabeth Bennett. But the one I really loved the most, and whom I think is slightly underappreciated in the literary world, is Anne Eliot from Persuasion. She was such an awesome character. I liked how she always treated her family well even though they didn't appreciate her. I was glad that she finally got her happy ending!

Anne Elliot, Persuasion is my fave Austen book as well.
Can't bear Fanny Price, such a pious little prig, Mary Crawford was the best female character in that novel

Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy, of course! Some of Austen's other heroines aren't spunky enough (Fanny Price just annoyed me) and Emma was a bit too much for my taste. Lizzy had the perfect mix of wit and spunk for a heroine - and by far the best foil in Darcy.

As a professor of English literature from 1660-1820, I am required by law to be mostly in love with Lizzy Bennet. Fortunately, it's not an especially hard law to obey.

Emma Woodhouse from the book by Emma. She is described as handsome, clever and rich. Austen also writes that no one except herself, is going to like Emma. But, she was rather wrong, i really liked this girl, or should i say, er.... heroine!!

i agree...anne eliott is the one.elizabeth bennet is captivating and my idol,no doubt...she's sparkingly witty, fun and beautiful...yet anne has a greater strength of character,i think...since to be persuaded to give up your love for the sake of his(as she thought)carrer and good is a very difficult task indeed and yet more is to wait and wait for her love in a fixed faith that he will return.anne is so unlike the other austen heroines...soft,gentle yet a tower of strength....
hero???? undoubtly(and inevitably) mr.darcy!!!

Catherine from Northanger Abbey. Just the way she is put together to lampoon other novels, yet is still 100% Austen, is great.
