I understand the need in some societies for children to work. i.e. In farming communities children must help thier parents work the land if they all want to survive. In some places the families are so poor even the kids must get a job. However, unbridal use of children as a means for cheap labor is a disgusting practice. So too is wrong to use children for excessive hours and in dangerous circumstances. So my answer to your question: Child labor in monitored family situations is ok. Mass forced child labor anywhere is wrong.

Their country, their laws, their way of life. Who are we to say otherwise? The only thing we can do to as consumers is make a statement by not buying stuff that says "made in india" or "made in china."

i think the government should step up to the plate after they get their stuff together (who knows when that will be) and families rely on their income becuase theyre never making enough or they are just plain lazy....i think its so sad but where is walmart going to get their cheap products if they didnt have the children working in india?

you ever been to india?
i spent a few months there, child labor is not forced labor as we think of in sweat shops and such making goods for the west, but they work in order to support the family so no one will starve to death. until the indian government can introduce real wages to most of its society, children will continue to have to work in order to survive.

So sad. India is a country of contrasts. So rich and so poor at the same time.

It is shameful. The Indian government should do everything in its power to bring it to an end.
