While the most correct term for someone who studies snakes and ONLY snakes is an ophiologist, most of the people I've met who study snakes call themselves herpetologists--which is equally correct if less precise.

Ophiologists are specialists within the field of herpetology

Ophiology is the study of snakes. So an ophiologist, is a person who studies them.

Herpetologists are people who study lizards and amphibians. I'm sure you meant just snakes. Lol
