It means he is a totally typical guy. Alot of them will say that they get scared because they start to really like you so they have to back off. Some are just jerks and can't seem to get the nerve to talk to you and tell you why he needs space instead of just blowing you off. Don't call him first off, then maybe he will realize he is losing something special. When he figures out that he needs you then he will call or talk to you. Also don't act upset about the situation because then he will think you are mad and not talk to you. Just let time pass and (hopefully) he will figure it out.

There might be for many reasons he might feel bore or you might did some thing wrong and offend him or break his heart or ... he has found a new girl (sorry)
try to talk him and console him
