If it is because the chess game is a pop-up window then I would try holding down the "Ctrl" key when you click the link, that is normally the key associated with allowing pop-ups.

try internet security under tools and enable most of the activex and java choices

make sure your firewall is not blocking it and also make sure you have java installed, if you don't have java, then go to www.java.com and download it.
