That would be fine. None of the stories really come together enough that you have to play them in order. Each game is its own story. I would suggest starting with the earlier one and working your way up only for the fact the you don't have to play a "good graphics" game and then switch to a "bad/older graphics" game.

Totally, Final Fantasy VIII was the best one to me. If you like a love story, with lots of drama and action, then FF8 will be just fine. Actually Final Fantasy VIII was the first Final Fantasy game I ever played. The games have nothing to do with each other. Sometimes there are little random things like in Final Fantasy VII there was Shin-ra,(I never actually play FF7 all the way through, it made my eyes hurt, and I could never figure out how to get to the Shinra building, so I just gave up) and then in Final Fantasy X-2, there was a character named Shin'ra. I forgot what you call that in games when the have things like that in them. But the only two games that have anything to do with each other, as far as characters go, is Final Fantasy X, and X-2. But despite what people say, Final Fantasy VII, was ok, the graphics are horrible, and I could never get far in the game, but maybe you will have better luck with it than me.

Yup, they've got the same name and some elements overlap (like weapons, names, gameplay), but they're not part of the same series, really. The characters are different and the settings are different, so each game is a new one entirely.
FF8 is really good, but you might be disappointed with FF7 if you play it first. There's a HUGE difference in the graphics. If that's the one you have, then play that, and look up FF7 some time.

None of the Final Fantasy games had any specific order, and as far as games go, in my own personal opinion, FF7 and FF8 were the two best in the series. The difference in graphics between the two are huge, but they are both very good games to play.

No because it was the suckiest suck that ever did suck of the series. It was really the worst game in the series. As to the story line aspect it doesn't matter. Just you play that one first and you may not like the series, so to be fair if you play it first keep repeating to yourself IT will get better.

Absolutely not. The 8th one was very disappointing. You need to find 7. That's the greatest one of all time.

You could, but I concur with the first answer. I have been told by someone who has had enough time to play them all, that it is best to start with VII
