I got a 20gb hd on Laptop, right now I got 7gb free. I will get an usb external hard drive in a month, but right now I am desperate to get some extra time. I want to compress my hard drive but I don't know if its Ok, will it damage my laptop, will it slow it down?

Thank you in advance

I compressed my hard drive a long time ago on a different computer. I found that I had to do alot more than I thought when using files that were on that hard drive when using them on other computers. I had to go through and open files a certain way. It won't hurt your hard drive or anything but it is a pain in the butt to use any files you have created or create on other computers. I wouldn't recommend it. I suggest just going through your computer and burning files you don't really use on a cd.

DO NOT COMPRESS YOUR C: DRIVE
that would be extremely bad.
instead compress some of the things in you my-documents folder or even the entire my-documents folder

you wont earn much space by doing so so its better to burn on a CD or DVD some of you data to be sure
