It's a lot slower and more complictated and intricate than the Sims 1, so it's easy to get frustrated with it. The graphics are pretty awesome, though.

To put it simply: imagine playing god to your own little creations.

You can start out by playing a pre-made family in a pre-made neighborhood, but a lot of the fun in the game is creating your own people and homes

So you go through and decide what color skin your sim will have, its name, its age, its hairstyle and clothes, and its life aspiration. Its kind of your sims motivation in life...have a family, be rich, be popular...there are several to choose from. You also choose personality...you can make a really rude snobby sim or a complete slob with no neatness at all. This affects how they interact with others in actual gameplay.

After you make your sim you can make your own house and put furniture in it. That would take forever to explain but you get the idea.

Your sim can make friends by talking to other people, they can get a job and earn money, they have to pay bills etc.... and they also have a set of needs you have to make sure are filled

For example, if their hunger bar is getting a bit low, click on the fridge and tell them to make a nice omlette or drink some juice.

They get job promotions, fall in love, have children...etc. And each day they have goals they want to reach

For example: if I created a sim named Sally and I wanted her aspiration to be "have a family"...her goal for the day might be to get married to her boyfriend...or if she already has children it might be "teach joey how to read"....and they get points by fulfilling their goals.

In the sims 2, you can create a toddler and watch her celebrate birthday after birthday go from toddler to child to teenager to adult to elder...then they die. Yeah, they actually die...the grim reaper shows up and everything.

If you are considering buying this for your children, you may want to keep this in mind:

Sims can have sex and create babies. They both get into a bed at the same time and if they are in love, you can select an option of "try for a baby" or "whoohoo" Nothing graphic is ever shown but you do see the bed move. They can also kiss and makeout. I don't see the harm in it, but some parents wont let their children play because of it.

My opinion? Obviously I love the game....and I spend way too much money buying the expansion packs (which give you new options like going to college or going out to a club)

It is rated T for TEEN....probably because it is kind of complicated and they can create babies and kiss.

Alot of new features and interactions than sims 1. Its alot of fun to play and easy to customize your sims. However, it DOES go slow and takes up ALOT of memory. Also, even the patches you download do not fix all the problems with the game. Despite all it's problems. I'd still recommend it.
