Some people couldn't tell the truth if it bite them in the face each time they told a lie. It just comes second nature to them to continue on the same path they have always been on. When you notice this about someone you realize you can believe have of what they say and the other half you take at face value, meaning unless you see it or know it to the be the truth you don't believe them, sad I know but it is reality with someone who can't be truthful.

because they can't, is not in them - they are so used to lying, they don't know what else to do
the being you just described is also my soon to be ex - I have confronted him time and time again, little lies, big lies... it doesn't matter, at the time it seems like he gets it... then the next lie comes along and I realized, it doesn't matter! at least to him, so why should it matter to me?
In my case I had to get it through my head that he is not the man that I thought he was - AND that the things that so 'happen' to him, they just don't happen, they are decisions... and whether he is not man enough to admit it or not, doesn't mean that the truth is any less true... he is where he is by his own choice and I had to turn the focus on me and my child since his focus, like always, has been on him all along... we deserve better

this is something that has to run its course before it can go away,
its unfortunate that you will be the one who suffers from it,I have been through it twice now and know all the symptoms and have heard all the very pathetic excuses that comes from it, the sad part about it all is that they dont really care how bad they sound or how stupid they look trying to pull off with a lame reason of their whereabouts and doings.even with proof that their story is a lie they stand firm behind their story and reasoning so its a loosing battle to even think about getting them to tell the truth.

I do not believe that they can change because in order to change you have to want to change. I had a boyfriend that was a compulsive liar and he said he would change, but never did. He would lie about the silliest things that did not matter, but they were lies none the less and therefore I could not tolerate them.

Any cure for a compulsive liar and chronic infidel?
1. has to want to change himself
2. go to a qualified NLP practitioner for treatment
Why can't they just tell the truth for once?
1. becasue the truth hurts. he is trying to avoid pain, but unfortunatly casues more pain... vicious cycle

Because like you said, they're chronic and pathetic. They're also dumb and stupid because once they tell the first lie they aren't smart enough to tell it right and then they have to lie again to cover up the first one and it goes on and on and on.

The only cure for lying is to divorve him and leave him alone. As long as you stay with him he will keep cheating on you and lying about it
