Depends on how long is "the following years"

The next 100 years sees the USA unfortunately losing sole super power status to China and India

War with China is inevitable because Americans do not understand them, and will only relinquish power after a lot of "kicking and screaming". But not all-out World War III, "only" a few hundreds of thousands to a million deaths before both sides come to their senses.
India is not going to be as much a problem because they are now and will continue to get along with everyone via diplomacy and mastery of the English language. They will even manage to make a permanent peace with Pakistan.

The next 100 years will see the rise of the corporation as political power. There will likely be at least one declared war between private armies(mercenaries) and a sovereign nation.

Probably in Africa.

In the next 60 years widespread availability of bio technology will allow well off parents to select the most desireable features for their children. This will create new social preassures as well meaning eugenicists will attempt to eliminate retardation, propensity to disease, homosexuality, and whatever else they decide is undesirable.

Corporations will be the balance against state sponsored totatitarianism, not for altruistic reasons, but for profit. Some people will become corporate citizens rather than traditional national ones. Democracy will flourish, but mutate as various financial factions vie for control of the principal world economic blocs.

The world will probably right off Africa as a lost cause, although the diehard do-gooders will continue to try.

Radical Islam will become extinct as too many women will become empowered in isalmic contries and their influence grows. Islamic contries that do not fully embrace capitalism will succumb to Islamic countries that do.

Nuclear weapons will kill millions in the countries of the Prophet, and this will truely awaken them to the path of peace. The weapons will be home made.

Everyone will accept less personal liberty in exchange for security.

Artificial Intelligence becomes reality in about twenty years and becomes widespread in affluent cultures in about 40. PDA's will become like secretaries, nannies or pets as everyone will have complete access to almost all non-copyrighted information instantaneously.

The term "Internet" will become a quaint word that only old people use.

Inflation will quadruple material costs within 20 years and they will rise tenfold before scarce materials will be mined on asteroids. This creates an explosion of wealth for the capitalists/industrial firms and pension funds owned by regular citizens of western economies that invest there. One small sized asteroid holds the equivelant amounts of iron, gold platinum and nickel to sustain a continents needs for centuries.

Fossil fuels run out, clean nuclear fusion comes online, Middle Eastern countries turn on each other as their corrupt and inept governments can't buy the loyalty of their citizens.

The environment changes as the weather does, with massive droughts and famines and diseases, but this is largely confined to the developping world and it will remain business as usual for the west.

If you live in North America or Europe, you are best off. But anyone with weath and education will do alright regardless of their country of origin, as long as their passport is in order....

The mass extinctions caused during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries will be replaced by bio-engineered diversity.

If the following years becomes the next thousand or two, then the species homo sapiens sapiens will undoubtably be replaced by a variety of human derivitive species, and by advanced, but not hostile Artificial Intelligences.

And the Earth will keep spinning regardless of what man does. The geeks will have inheritted the Earth.

it'll get hotter, but hopefully. people like my family and other more extreme gas guzzlers will see that you don't always have to use air conditioning. try soem organic things, and that drivng everywhere isn't the bast idea. although i do think it's nice. we just need to recycle more, eat less processed foods, and extreme packaged goods. and just eat more natural organic stuff and recycle. that's really it. one person can't do it alone. but as the youngest in the family. i can't do anything. since i'm the only vegetarian too. and i'm always made fun of it everyday for over a year. it's not great. open you mind. it's harsh out there.

The earth and the seasons will remain, but the time of pleasantness will end. We think the earth is difficult to manage and live in now, but at some point there will be less vegetation, less air, less water... and then things will truly become difficult.
