100% with you buddy, all the way! It sometimes sets me off because at home no one bothers to say 'Good Morning' or 'See Ya Later!'. So I depend on the 'outside' world to make me happy. When I walk by someone they'll smile and greet me. I've made many friends that way and learnt that it's safer :)
As for holding open the door, once in a while I don't get a 'thanks'. And I think "Right. So you're good." But they probably have their reasons, I can't blame them for being themselves. They might even regret later on. But it's nice to see someone smiling for you. Once I held open the door for this guy who was carrying boxes inside the building. He said 'thanks' and gave me a flashing smile. Imagine the look on his face when he returned there to see me still standing with the door open, he was stunned, so I recieved a milion-dollar smile. But then again I'm a teenager and I have manners. You give what you want to get and you get what you deserve, right!? People have stopped to let me know how they really appreciate what I do, it makes my day.
Fact remains, I don't like it when people don't take the time to show their appreciation. I mean, dude it makes *let me demonstrate* 5 SECONDS! Ugh! But then they have their reasons...

VERY!!!! It is sooo annoying! I hold open doors for elderly people, young mum's with pushchairs, and other adults with bags full of shopping. I am even the same on a bus or train. I offer pregnant women or teenage girls my seat, elderly people somewhere to sit, wheelchair bound folk a place to park their wheelchair. Do I get a thankyou? 99 times out of 100, no!!! The general public are so rude its unbelievable. I so wish more people had a sense of courtesy and etiquette and it would re-install my faith with most people in society.

Very Rude...
There are so many people in the world today most don't think it's there civic responsibility to cordial to each other. Some times you just want to wait until they come back out and the slam the door in there face.
But that would make no better or even worse than them.
keep on keepin on and ahem...I Will say thanks for them.
You would like to believe that the law of diminishing returns does not apply to random acts of kindness.

One of THE most annoying things in the world! Went to an all girls' school, joined with boys' school for A levels. When I was down at the boys' school they were told to open the doors for girls to go through. The first year boys were always very keen and often ran to the end of a corridor to open the door for you. I always thank someone for opening doors for me. It is courteous and they didn't have to do it.

Yes, I would as it's happened to me. But when the shoe was on the other foot and the door was opened for me, I said "thank you" and it was all I could say as I was taken aback by the gesture. I never expected it & to this moment it still haunts me for not saying more but I was uncertain as to whether I should have or be accused of a crime.........

Sometimes, most of the time it just depends on who I'm opening it for. I mean if it's a stranger and they don't say anything then maybe their shy or something, I used to be like that but not anymore. I mean yeah it is rude not to say anything but, hey, at least you were polite.

Yes! But being the polite man you are, I bet you don't say anything. So here is a big THANK YOU for all the men who still do this!!! And especially for you, I thank you a thousand times for all the times that you've held a door for me because I am carrying packages, or dealing with chidren, or just because I am a lady and you are a gentleman . Thank you SO much!

If you held the door open for me, I'd say thank you. I do it every time someone holds the door open, it's kind of them to do that.
Being female, if I hold the door open, it's recognized and not taken for granted, like with some of you guys, unfortunately. I always get a thank you.

yes, good manners unfortunately seem to be a thing of the past nowadays. Its not the youth of today either i find its the elderly that are the worst for no manners and rudeness.
