In the UK its an aboslute minmum of 20mins for 8hrs, plus they should let you go to the loo when you need to.
Contact the T.U.C website , mail them and ask about a 12hr shift, they will mail you back.
Im a union rep at work ... dont take any notice of the other answers, they are all wrong.

Some bizarre answers so far, 15 minutes every two hours? That't a generous employer!
It depends upon the job you do but as a guideline....
You are entitled to a break of 20 minutes away from where you normally work if your working day will be longer than six hours. (So for 12.5 hours the absolute minimum should be 2x20 minute breaks).
But the same groups of workers who have different provisions for daily and weekly breaks can also have their breaks at work varied. If you cannot take your break you must be given time off at another time.
In some jobs you may be entitled to longer breaks. If your job is particularly repetitive or dangerous (such as the threat of RSI to keyboard workers) then you may be entitled to more breaks, at least away from the dangerous activity. Take advice if you are in this position.

12 and 1/2 hours. every 2 hours a break about 10 min. They do not have to pay for lunch if you do not have to do anything job related in this time. For example go in at 6 at 8 and 10 get a 10 minute break 20 or 30 for lunch at noon and 2 and 4 a couple more breaks.
