Carrey has the biggest fear, shared by many who do sequels to their hit movies. In a word, that fear is "TYPECAST". I think, though, it goes beyond that fear.....I think if he were to do a Ace Ventura 3, would that send signals to the businessfolks in the biz that Jim is on the skids a tad????
You gotta look at things from their view, not be ready to just say "Oh, Carrey's tooo huge a star to do another Ventura project!!!!"

Maybe beacuse he's trying to distance himself from that series and actually be respected as an actor? I'm not saying he's trying to be the next DeNiro, but still. Ace Ventura 1 and 2 were a painful to watch, and 3 is sure to be no better. I think he is smart for not doing it. And whoever wrote the script and thought it would be a good idea to make a third Ace Ventura surely has a spot in hell reserved for them.

Most likely, Carrey feels no need or desire to explore the character any further. He has already moved on to other projects, and may not wish to go back to earlier roles. (Notice that he was not involved in "Son of The Mask.")
Also, it would take an excellent script to lure him back to the Ace Ventura role, and possibly a great deal of money. I suspect both are lacking here.

Because the original Ace Ventura, though low-budget, was really great and sparked his movie career. He made the mistake of doing a second one, which had a much higher budget, but was not nearly as funny as the first one. He must know that a third would be even worse than the second. Besides, it's not like he's desperate for movie offers!

He was great in it, and I'm sure they would have, except it probably wasn't a critical or a financial success, so they didn't bother with third movie if they knew they weren't going to make any profit.

Because he broke into actual acting after those films and knows that he can do better. He is a pretty good actor if you exclude the Ace Ventura films and the Mask.

alittle bit more mature now, and it wouldn't be worth making Ace 3 with the money he has

I really do not know but I love that last two. The man is crazy and silly. I loved him as Fire Marshall Bill on In Living Color.
