Just saw a bug in my bathroom. Didn't get a good look at it, but it's small, sort of beetle-ish, red and black, with a red cross on its back. Looked really cool. I live in a city in the upper Midwest.

Could it be the famous "red cross beetle"? (I'm not joking). Check out the website below. Don't kill it -- it's a beneficial insect which eats bad bugs.

beetle-ish? hmm... sounds like a small eastern milkweed bug (lygaeus kalmii) to me.

SPIDER YOU WOULD KNOW . BLACK WIDOWS HAVE
MARKING ON THE STOMACHE NOT THE BACK.
MOST LIKELY, IT IS A STINK BUG.
IF IT'S RED AND BLACK I WOULD KILL IT.
THOSE ARE NOT GOOD COLORS.

that...would...be... a black widow. they are VERY VERY venomous. BE CAREFUL. theyve killed enough people.

that would be a "ladybug". it is good for plants because it eats insects that can harm leaves
