I believe that we can. If we have some patience and belief in our Country. After all that is what faith is all about.

No, because it is not a "war". Who exactly are we fighting? We have basically thrown ourselves it to the middle of a civil war. One that contains 5 groups who have been at "war" with each other for thousands of years. This military action was simply a political diversion. The administration took advantage of the public's fear after 9/11. When it became apparent to the Joint Chiefs that they were not going to be able to capture public enemy #1, the administration decided to go after #2 to save face. The irony that everyone misses is that Saddam was also the enemy of the Taliban and we did #1 a favor by getting rid of #2! I've served my country for over 20 years, and yes, I have seen firsthand how messed up is this confrontation. You cannot win as the 3rd party in a civil war. For God's sake, we don't even know who the enemy is! My brothers who fought in Viet Nam tell me it was much the same. You couldn't tell the North Vietnamese from the South. There was no way to "win".

By the way, you first have to decide what "win" means. Does anyone really believe that even if we succeed in establishing a solid government in Iraq that the fighting won't go on for another 1000 years? Isn't our ego a little out of control when we think that 1000's of years of fighting is going to stop just because the mighty U.S. says it should?

Over 2,000 of my brothers and sisters are dead and the only winners are the government contractors.

What does it mean here, "to win" ?
Mr. Bush claimed victory some years ago ;)
If winning means establishing a stable democratic government in Iraq and keeping it alive for the long term, then it's really tough and going to cost hugely in lives and money.
If being despised for generations to come by people of the area because we intruded is an indication of "losing", then America may have already lost this one. I'd call it a lot worse than the Vietnam outcome thus far ... The question is on what happens in the long term. I don't believe that it is possible to "force people to be free" ... it must come via their own cultural process.

No. It will end up being like Korea, and Vietnam. The experts in that area of the country and the foreign experts told daddy Bush that chaos would happen if he took out Saddam, back when the Gulf war happened and that is why daddy Bush did not take him out then. Once he was out, all the differing factions would fight for control of Iraq, and also the Taliban that Saddam was keeping out of Iraq, would then be open to coming into Iraq. Daddy Bush was there only long enough to drive them out of the country they had invaded and to keep them from invading the other one (Saudi Arabia). Iraq did have WMD's back then, but was eventually gotten rid of, and so G.W. did not find any when he started his war, nor were there any before he went in. There was proof that the so called "information" G.W. had that there was wmd's was false. He knew the information was not true. "60 Minutes" had a feature all about the information being fake, had documents to back up their facts, even government documents that the stuff Bush was claiming was F-A-K-E!!!!!!!

Iraq is not about winning or losing it is about liberating people who have lived for a very long time without freedom of choice, freedom to be themselves. No one is winning any war, our country has paid a high price for this but the people in Iraq have paid a much higher price. Any time a country can recover it pride and freedom from dictatorship is worth it.

We already have (much to the consternation of the leaders of the democratic party.) But it is undeniable that after 5 free elections, a constitution, a Parliament elected by the Iraqi people, a cabinet assembled, the Iraqi army and police force becoming increasingly capable, utilities coming on-line, prosperity abounding, cell phones and communication (including a free press) on the rise in a rapid fashion, and the "insurgents" being outed by people who don't want them there (a la zarqari)

I'm no pollyana but I'm tired of the only thing that's mentioned in the press is a death count. There is more tough work to do but our service members are finishing ,and will finish the job.

NOT AT ALL. We will neither win in Iraq nor in Afghanistan. Sadam was and is a CIA agent. He is working for CIA since 16 years of age. Heis not a Muslim. He is an Isamili who are not considered Muslims beacause they have funny beliefs like God has gone inside Ali etc. Qaddafi and Bashir Asad of Syrai are Isamili too. All of these are brought into power by CIA and they are having AMericna Wrestling Matches with them. Both Iraq and Afghansitan will totally ruin USA economy. IN Afghansitan we are suceeded in restoring trillion dollar heroin trafficking which was completely stopped by Talibans. In Iraq we will bleed, bleed and bleed like USSR did in Afghansitan.

I thought we already did. If I remember right, George W Bush flew onto the deck of an aircraft carrier and announced that our mission was accomplished and that major combat operations in Iraq were over.

Did I dream that?

I don't think so. But one of my favorite quotes on the subject is this:

"Winning the war in Iraq is like winning the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded."

I think that sums it up pretty well.

I think that the real question is will the Iraqi's win.
If you follow in this vein then I must answer YES.
However, what they do with this win is always on my mind.
I hope with all of my heart that they will be able to dig themselves out of the centuries old conflict of neighbor killing neighbor.
Will we win? We have already won, now it is time for the Iraqi's
to continue with this win that we have given them, and make their
own lives better!

Only if we kill them all.

Operation "Shock and Awe" was a nighttime bombing. According to unofficial scuttlebutt, we killed over one hundred thousand civilians, while they slept.

Please bear in mind, these were mothers, fathers, aunts and uncles, etc. This left a majority of the families over there with the loss of close relative.

I don't think the Iraqi emotional makeup is much different than ours. So if you were to kill my uncle or nephew or cousin, while he slept..... I'd be rollin' out the family sedan to attack back.

Here in America, we're taught to hate groups of people. Gays, Mexicans, etc. Shoot, we even hated the Irish immigrants when they were purged from their homes by the Brittish.

Funny thing is, when you meet one of these people (victims), face to face, you find they're just like us. No one wants to die and no individual really likes the idea of killing another.

But when you hate groups, you take away the names and faces of the human your murdering. This seems to make it easier for even the strictest of Christian to put the stamp of approval on murder.
