My newly (3weeks) planted peonies are near the driveway and my husband decided to put up a basketball rim on the garage and now the peonies are getting hit by the ball. They are all broken but are still green. I want to move them because I don't want to lose them. Shall I wait until fall or can I move them now? Maybe I should get rid rid of the husband. LOL! I love peonies and want to have a garden full of them. Does transplanting really affect them that much? Can I do it mid season?

Yes they can be moved. What I do in this situation to lower stress to the plant. Dig up when it Cloudy, Shaded, Cool morning or Afternoon, sometimes even after it dark! Why? I feel the sunlight stresses the plant when the Roots are exposed to sun. OK, now when the plant is moved dig a slightly larger hole and use a good Potting Soil or Miracle-Grow Potting Soil to fill in around the Plant, like you re-potting into a larger Pot, water well and add more water regular (Do not Drown the Plant). Soon, they should be well established in their new home. I prefer the Miracle-Grow as it seems to work well for me, it is more expensive, but, goes a long way too. I have used regular Potting Soil before and it works.
