Being a Pistons fan too, I was sad to see Big Ben leave. The Pistons offered him about a 4 year, $48 million dollar deal; but ultimately, he chose the Chicago Bull's 4 year, $60 million dollar offer. Detroit News reported that the Pistons never really had a shot at working out a sign and trade deal to get something in return for Wallace, nor did they have much of a chance to resign him - seems like he had his heart set on joining Chicago.
While Wallace's departure will definitely impact the Pistons next year (they lost one of the core components of their starting 5, along with his defense, hustle, and leadership he brought to the team). The Pistons did manage to sign Nazr Mohammed...definitely not the type of defender Wallace is, but he might get more points. I think the thing that Wallace's departure affects most will be team chemistry - they've had the same starting 5 (Ben, Rasheed, Tayshaun, Rip, and Billups) for almost 2 seasons...it'll take time for the rest of them to adjust to a new style of play/ new player insterted into the starting lineup.
However, letting Ben Wallace go also has some positives for the Pistons. Wallace is a player who relies on his hustle to make plays...he is in no way a finesse player. He is getting up there in age, though, so that raises concerns regarding how much longer he can keep up his high-energy style of play. Also, the Pistons now have more money to try to pursue free agents with (Muarice Evans was also traded, freeing up more cap space) - perhaps they'll be able to sign Lorenzen Wright or find a way to get Chris Wilcox. Finally, although Big Ben's presence on the defensive end of the floor will be sorely missed; his lack of offense sure won't. It seemed at times as if the Pistons were playing with only 4 men on the offensive end of the floor last year; in this new NBA era that seems to favor run-and-gun offensive teams (Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks), the Pistons have a chance to become a better offensive team now Wallace is gone.
Big Ben's decision to leave will have a great impact on the Pistons' upcoming season, I: doubt they'll be able to find someone to really replace him. However, this move might prove to be more beneficial to the Pistons in the years to come, we'll see how they respond and whether they pursue more free agents this off season.

Yeah... as everyone said he did choose to bolt to the Chicago Bulls. He said he didn't have any ill feelings for the Pistons, but the money appealed to him more than anything else. However, I don't think you should be so sad about Ben Wallace for numerous reasons.
1) Ben Wallace has no offense (see free throw shooting). if he made just a few more free throws. THe parade wouldn't be in Miama, that's for sure.
2) WIth the new alterations in the NBA rules, his hard-nosed defense won't end up in good defense, but touch fouls. It's all about offense now. Stern has realized the gigantic boring factor of defense and its now the slasher's heaven. For example, Dwayne Wade.
3) He's 32... and his stats have been going down already.. would you want to lock up your roster to keep a guy who can't provide offense? Lets say they win next year.. but what about the year after that?? How are the Pistons going to get young stars with his enormous salary in the way?
4) It's not like Ben Wallace was the only guy on defense. The rest of the PIston's starters are all excellent defenders, and they will still provide stingy resistance to other teams. WIth Nazr Mohammed on the team now, the PIstons might just defend as well and score much more. With that said, the PIstons might just improve.
So be optimistic

Big Ben in Chicago now, oh well it was bound to happen, Saunders limited his scoring chances, yeah I know not like he was a huge threat anyway but Brown gave him more than Carlisle did and Saunders took that away. Got to keep the guy happy, and if he was happy he wouldve stayed in Detroit.

It's true. He went to the Bulls. The Bulls made him a better financial offer. He already has a ring, so I can't blame the man for going for the bigger payday. Also, they are a young team on the rise, so it keeps him in position to at least challenge for another ring.

They think that they are quite handy and like to handle what we can describe as simple electrical faults rather than engage the services of professional New Jersey Electrical Contractors.
