Its ok to masturbate without lotion. I think some people put lotion is because they want to make it feel smooth while doing it instead of having the friction feeling. But putting lotion prevents you from tearing of the penis skin while masturbating.

Lubricant is recommended because it close to the real thing. You can learn to last longer masturbating.
