Jones... but it's close...

It's actually a very good question as they are fairly even.

Shelton hit 18HR in 388AB (21.5 AB/HR) last year and is on a slightly better pace, 16HR in 298AB (18.6 AB/HR). He maintains about a .285 BA. He's a 1B for Detroit.

Jones has hit 15HR in 283AB (19 AB/HR) but has never hit more than 27 in a season (4 years ago) when he averaged 21 AB/HR. He does have a little speed and will net a few SB. He was a .300 hitter until the last two years, dipping to .250. Now in Chicago, his stats are eerily similar to that 2002 campaign. He's an OF for the Cubs. He's also 5 years older than Shelton at 31.

Jones is probably a good bet as one of your many OF/Util requirements (typically 6 spots). Shelton is not the strongest 1B and at 26 may actually be near the peak of his power. He is limited to 1B/CI/Util (3 spots).

In a keeper league, Shelton is younger and has greater power potential while Jones is fading but enjoying a nice reprise.

It may also depend on your primary needs but OF and 1B are not in short supply.

Shelton had the hotter start, but my money goes with Jacque Jones due to experience.

However....if we are talking a keeper situation, I'd take Shelton. He'll only get better.

Jones might get traded to a contender, and shelton had that 15 game tear, but that's it. Go with Jones

Shelton although he has cooled off immensely since his hot start. Advantage he has is playing for the Tigers which gives him a lot more chances for RBIs, and Runs, as compared to playing for the Cubs.

I go w/ Shelton.

You have to stick w/ the hot, hot, hot Tigers right now. He's starting to turn it back on.

As a Cubs fan, I'd advise against Jones.
