That bad tackles answer is bogus. He dives to get the calls. Because the refs have become bigger Prima Donnas than the players, the calls in the World Cup often determine the match. Renaldo knows this. He knows that one red card can mean the difference (see the game against England). He knows that the easiest shot in soccer is the penalty kick.

But, although Cristiano is only the most recent and most flagrant of the divers, they all do it. Soccer has become a sissy sport at the highest levels because that's the easiest way to win. During the U.S.-Ghana match, the U.S. team captain was beaten badly and it cost the U.S. a goal. He, after barely being touched, threw himself on the ground as if he was hurt, had himself carted off the field on a stretcher, and yet came back to play later. Anyone who watches sports other than soccer knows that if you are that badly hurt that you need a stretcher--you won't be back. In American football, guys limp off the field sometimes, or get helped off, but if they need to be carried, they are probably done for at very least the game and most likely the season.

Yet there was Claudio Reyna, back playing at game speed after supposedly getting hurt. It isn't just C. Renaldo. It is a serious problem with the sport and Reyna AND C. Renaldo should have been red carded for their acts. While watching this world cup, I can assure you that there have been loads too many cards, but I can tell from the TV who is throwing themselves down, and it is about time the sport stopped rewarding such flagrant acting.

When I was playing (I played at a high level as an adult), I would have been red carded out of every game I played had the current standards applied back then. They have to stop carding ordinary penalties.

" i do not think he dives that often u must bear in miund tht he is a great player and a lot of defenders are wary of him so they tend to give me too many bad tackles "

Wrong... He does dive!!! Look at end of first half game Germany Vs Portugal... through himself to floor holding shin while looking at referee even though replays show he wasn't touched!!!

Does it to con referees mostly into giving an advantage to his team. He'd probably argue (like Robben of Chelsea) that he dives to avoid tackles from defenders... thats rubbish though because you can't win a freekick because the defender might have touched you if you didn't dive!

First of all its ROnaldo u dumbass!!! Spell his name right before u try to make a comment about him!!!
Why does everyone think that all that Cristiano Ronaldo does is dive??? PEOPLE!!! He just trips over the ball because he has complicated footwork and most of the time, he has over 4 other players hounding him! He has to be made out of a brick wall to resist falling!!!

because it's part of the game which I guessing you obviously don't watch...

did you see the Italian player dive against Australia for the penalty to win?

did you see Henry from France dive against Spain (which there wasn't no contact either) to set up for the game winning goal...

diving is in soccer and people are just picking on REnaldo for doing something that's been going on since the first World Cup...

Call Portugal divers but if it wasn't for the dirty Dutch in that game against Portugal, Portugal would of been one of the teams with the least amount of fouls...

I would also like to mention that Portugal got cheated themselves by a lot of dirty plays against them but never called because of all the media trying to put them down, even with all those yellows and reds we still made it to the semi's, just wait till next tournament, we're just going to get better so you going to see a lot more of REnaldo, so hate as much as you want, he's here and just knowing it burns you inside make me laugh at your agony...lol

I guess as BCMiguel says it is part of the game, so that is why he does it - he has given many examples - personally I think it should not be part of the game, but until FIFA actually do what they say and clamp down on this sort of thing, then players will always try to take advantage.

he doesn't always dive - he also shouts at referees to send colleagues off... lol

he dives because he's a snidey little cretin who will do anything, no matter how underhand to win. it's footballers like him who are dragging the game down - whatever happened to sportsmanship and fair play?

this is because either he is not confident in himself or his team so he thinks that he needs to play the calls the ref makes orrrr....because he is lazy and wants the easy way out instead of actually working hard to score a goal he gets fouls called on him. i personally believe that he is not confident in his team's performance so he takes it upon himself to set up the WHOLE team in a scoring position by getting a fould near or in the 18 yard box. this is a really poor display of footballing and c.ronaldo should play with all the skill that he really has. he is fully capable of playing amazing football but he chooses not to and he picks the easy way out. its unfortunate but that is his personal choice and probably the choice of his coach. if you noticed he doesn't dive as much when playing for manchester united as when he is playing for portugal...thats strategy for you....:)
